Boy Scout leader recognized...
at Patrick Henry District Volumterr Appreciation Dinner.
B.S.A. Leaders Pete Scouras, Dave Stana, Allen Alderman, and Barry Eanes were recognized with awards at the Patrick Henry District Volunteer Appreciation Dinner on Tuesday April 23rd, 2002.
The Cub Scout Leader of the year award was given to Barry Eanes of Patrick Springs. Barry has been active with the Cub Scout program for five years as a leader with Pack 69, chartered by Stella Christian Church. Barry and his wife Rhonda live in the Moorefield Store area of the County. They have two children, Amanda and Matthew. Barry is an Architectual Designer at Nomus, Inc. in East Bend, N.C.
The Boy Scout Leader of the year award was given to Allen Alderman. Allen is the Scoutmaster of Troop 167, chartered to Bassett Church of the Brethren. Allen, an Eagle Scout, has been involved with the program for over 20 years and has served as Scoutmaster for five years.
Two District Award of Merit plaques were also given to deserving leaders. The District Award of Merit is the highest individual award given to leaders in the B.S.A. movement by a district. Dave Stana of Claudville received the Award of Merit for his years of active service with Troop 77 which meets at Red Bank Ruritan Club in Claudville. Dave has been in the Scouting Program for 12 years with the Troop. During that time he has been an assistant scoutmaster, troop committee member, and serves now as the troop committee chairman. Dave also serves as an assistant advisor of Venture Crew #77.
Dave is a Brotherhood Member of the Order of the Arrow, Tutelo Lodge #161. The Order of the Arrow is a youth-run, service-based organization that works in cooperation with the Scouting Program. Dave works at Estes Machine Company in Mt. Airy, N.C. where he is the welding shop foreman.
Pete Scouras, an Eagle Scout, also received the award. Pete has been active with Troop 326 for over 25 years and now serves as the committee chairman. Troop 326 is chartered to Broad Street Christian Church in Martinsville.
Aside from these accolades, several leaders were recognized with training awards. Nate Galbreath of Ridgeway received a 25-year Veteran Award for his involvement with Troop 264 and Troop 63, both of Martinsville. The Patrick Henry District encompasses both Henry and Patrick Counties and the city of Martinsville. Over 200 leaders are involved with the program which served over 1,000 youth in 2001.
